Are Odyssey batteries any good?

Odyssey batteries can have twice the power and triple the life of conventional lead acid batteries. They are able to handle a wide range of applications and performance demands.

Odyssey batteries offer superior power and endurance for the following reasons:

  1. Longer life: 8-12-year design life and 3-10-year service life.
  2. Vibration resistant: they offer Extreme protection against high-impact shocks and vibration.
  3. Virtually maintenance free: Sealed AGM design never requires watering
  4. Extreme temperature tolerance: -40ºF (-40ºC) to 140ºF (60ºC) for models without a metal jacket, and from -40ºF (-40ºC) to 176ºF (80ºC) for models with a metal jacket

Are Odyssey batteries gel or AGM?

The Odyssey battery is not a gel cell. The Odyssey battery is an absorbed electrolyte type battery, meaning that there is no free acid inside the battery; all of the acid is kept absorbed in the glass mat separators. These separators serve to keep the positive and negative plates apart.
The key difference between the gel cell and the absorbed glass mat (AGM) cell lies in the fact that in the AGM cell all of the electrolyte is in the separator, whereas in the gel cell the acid is within the cells in a gel form. In fact, if the ODYSSEY battery were to split open, there would be no acid spillage.

Can Odyssey batteries be mounted on their side?

In short yes, Odyssey batteries can be mounted on their side. ODYSSEY Extreme Series batteries use sealed AGM technology, which allows the battery to be installed even on its side.

Where are Odyssey batteries manufactured?

ODYSSEY batteries are manufactured to strict quality standards in five facilities globally: Warrensburg, Missouri and Springfield, Missouri in the United States; Newport, Wales in the United Kingdom, and Arras, France.
